I am a digital designer with four years of experience working on a variety of projects. I’m from Fargo, North Dakota, and attended North Dakota State University where I studied web design, journalism, and strategic communications. While I was in school, I worked at the student newspaper as the web and managing editor, and also wrote articles for various sections. I started the still-running Bison Abroad column when I studied abroad in England. I also worked as the student design coordinator at the print shop in the Memorial Union, where I created designs and printed posters for clients, in addition to managing a staff of 7 other students. For my senior capstone project, I created a working website for Fargo-Moorhead nonprofit the RiverKeepers, which I still maintain for them.
As mentioned, I studied abroad in England for a semester during my junior year through a competitive student swap program. I am incredibly lucky to have gotten such an amazing experience, even though a lot of hard work and saving went into it. I took journalism and graphic design courses at the University of Lancashire in Preston, while also taking the opportunity to travel around the UK and Europe. I made lasting friendships, explored my ancestry, and used my French in France.
I also got to go on an 11-day study trip to China at the end of my senior year, for which I skipped graduation. While in China, we toured historic sites, media, and businesses, including a Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, based manufacturing company where I now work: SJE.
My current role as Digital Designer & Communications Specialist was a new position when I joined SJE in 2017. I was excited to bring the company up-to-speed in the digital realm, including helping with several rebrandings and working with an agency to build 4 new websites for our company and three brands.
I also use my skills for volunteer opportunities. I am currently on the digital marketing subcommittee for Polar Fest in Detroit Lakes, where I post on social media and maintain the event website. This summer I redesigned the website on SquareSpace.
